Ingredients

1Lb or 453.6 Grams or 4 Sticks Unsalted Butter, cut into 2-inch cubes or thick strips

Directions
  • Add butter in a heavy bottomed sauce pan, place it on a low flame & butter starts to melt.
  • After butter melts, foam forms on the top & it will start to bubble or splutter. Make sure to stir occasionally.
  • Simmer for 15-20 minutes or until it turns clear & milk solids settle at the bottom. Make sure milk solids do not burn at the bottom, it needs to be golden brown.

  • At this stage ghee is ready, turn off the flame & allow it to cool a bit at normal room temperature.
  • Strain ghee using a strainer or a cheesecloth into an airtight glass jar.

Note: Ghee stored in an airtight container stays fresh for 4-6 months at room temperature & for a year when refrigerated.
