Ingredients

1 Cup Urad Dal (Mina Pappu), soak it in enough water for 3 hours
3 Green Chillies, break into 2 halves
Salt to Taste
1/2 Tspn Cumin Seeds
1 Tblspn Coriander Leaves
2 Tspn Curd
Oil for Deep Fry


Directions
  • After 3 hours; drain water completely from urad dal & add to a mixie jar. Also add green chillies, salt, coriander leaves, cumin seeds, curd & grind it to a smooth paste. Batter should be thick (check for the right consistency of batter by dropping a small ball of urad dal batter in a bowl containing water & the ball has to float).
  • Heat oil in a sauce pan/kadai on a medium flame & once oil is hot enough, drop 1-2 tablespoons of batter in the oil.
  • Fry them in small batches for 4-6 minutes or until golden brown & keep turning the vadas with a strainer ladle while frying otherwise they get discoloured. Vada should be crispy from outside & soft inside.
  • Transfer them to a plate lined with paper towel to remove excess oil.
  • Serve urad dal vada with tomato ketchup.
