Murmura Upma/Puffed Rice Upma

Ingredients

2 Cups Murmura/Puffed Rice
3 Cups Water
1 Medium Sized Onion, finely chopped
1/4 Tspn Gingergarlic Paste
1/8 Tspn Turmeric Powder
2-3 Green Chillies, chopped
Salt to Taste
1/4 Tspn Cumin(Jeera) Seeds
1/4 Tspn Mustard(Avaalu) Seeds
Few Curry Leaves
1 Tblspn Roasted Chana Dal (Putnala Pappu)
1 Tblspn Cilantro(Kothmir) Leaves
1 Tblspn Oil

Directions
  • In a motar pestle add roasted chana dal & make into a fine powder. Keep aside.
    • Heat oil in a kadai or wide pan on a medium flame; add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, curry leaves, green chillies & saute for a minute. Now add chopped onion & saute until they turn translucent.
    • Add gingergarlic paste, salt, turmeric powder & saute for a minute. 
    • Meanwhile add water in a bowl & soak puffed rice for 2 minutes.
    • Completely drain water & add soaked puffed rice & mix everything well. Cook for 5-8 minutes on a medium-low flame by stirring occasionally. 
    • Finally add roasted chana dal powder & mix everything well.
    • Turn off the flame & transfer to a plate.
    • Garnish puffed rice upma with cilantro leaves & serve.
