250 Grams Spine Gourd/Adavi Kakarkaya/Kantola
1 Medium Sized Onion, finely chopped
1/4 Cup Chana Dal (Chanaga Pappu); soak in water for half an hour
Salt to Taste
2 Tspn Red Chilli Powder
1/8 Tspn Turmeric Powder
1/4 Tspn Garam Masala Powder
1 Tspn Coriander(Dhania) Powder
3/4 Tspn Gingergarlic Paste
1 1/2 Cup Water or add as needed
1 Tblspn Cilantro(Kothmir) Leaves, chopped
1 1/2 Tblspn Oil

Directions
- Wash spine gourd under running water, drain & slice them lengthwise. If the seeds are tough remove them & if they are tender, soft then no need to remove.
- Heat oil in a wide pan on a medium flame; add chopped onions & fry until they turn translucent.
- Add gingergarlic paste, red chilli powder, salt, coriander powder & saute for another minute.
- Now add soaked chana dal(before adding chana dal drain water completely) & mix everything well.
- Saute for 2-3 minutes & add sliced spine gourd.
- Mix everything well & saute for 5-8 minutes. Now add water & cover with a lid. Cook for 15 minutes or until chana dal & spine gourd turns soft.
- Add garam masala powder & cook for 2 more minutes.
- Finallly garnish with cilantro leaves & turn off the flame.
- Serve hot with rice or roti.
